How to Measure a Wall for an LED Display
Learn how to measure a wall for an LED display in Singapore, from usable width and height to viewing distance, access, and power planning.

If you are learning how to measure a wall for an LED display, start with the space people will actually see, not simply the full wall size. For a fixed indoor LED wall, accurate measurements help your team discuss the right screen shape, viewing experience, installation method, and supporting works before requesting a proposal.
SECTION / 01
Measure the usable wall area first
Measure the clear width and height of the wall where the display may be installed. Record these dimensions in millimetres, and measure at several points because walls, columns, beams, skirting, doors, and ceiling features may reduce the usable area. Note anything that cannot be removed or covered, including sockets, access panels, fire equipment, lighting, and air-conditioning outlets. Also check whether the screen should sit on the wall, inside a recess, or on a separate structure. A simple drawing with measurements and photographs can make the first site discussion more accurate.

Check viewing distance and screen proportions
Measure from the planned screen face to the nearest and furthest regular viewing positions. Viewing distance affects how fine the LED image needs to appear; pixel pitch should be considered together with how close people will stand and what content they will watch [3]. Consider whether the wall will show presentations, text, branded graphics, video, or a mixture of content. The available width and height do not always need to be used fully. A balanced screen proportion may provide a better viewing area than filling every centimetre, especially where people will view the display from different angles or where content will be shared across multiple formats.

Allow for installation, access, and building coordination
A measurement should include more than the visible screen. Confirm the depth available behind or around the display, the route for bringing equipment into the building, and enough access for installation and future maintenance. Check lift sizes, door widths, loading restrictions, floor conditions, and the working area in front of the wall. Electrical planning should be coordinated with the building team so that supply location, distribution, isolation, ventilation, and cable routes are reviewed before installation [6]. The final layout may also require alignment with mounting conditions and content-system placement. Calibration is normally part of achieving consistent image appearance across the display, but the exact process depends on the selected system and site conditions [5].
